The Street Fister QnA blog
DISCLAIMER: This blog does not reflect the opinion of everyone that worked on Ryu vs Kenshiro and Akuma vs Raoh, and is just a way for me, Kaiser, to address the decisions that were made regarding the blogs and to talk about a few more extra arguments that people might have doubts about. It also contains a few updates about the future of the blog and why this took so long. Let’s begin.
Why did you decide to make Ryu vs Kenshiro the main blog instead of Akuma vs Raoh? Is that not the more popular matchup?
I wanted to make a definitive deep dive on Hokuto, and that was simply not possible with Akuma vs Raoh. Kenshiro is the strongest character in the series and has access to most of the martial arts, so we got to cover basically everything. I also like Kenshiro way more as a character, and wanted to cover him specifically.
Do you buy FTL canon Hokuto?
Yes, the Garuda Gaiden does not contradict anything and FTL is supported by Tai-Yan. The Gaidens are mostly heavily supervised and have to be approved by Hara too, so there’s nothing wrong with using it.
Why was Jagi’s feat so high? Didn’t it get debunked to small island? Why did you use the OVA for footage of the nukes?
Nobody ever cared to calculate the massive cloud split that it created for some reason, we just did that, lol. I see no problem in using Toki’s OVA for footage, if you’re soft-compositing you’re gonna have to assume that Jagi was also there since the Gaiden is the only source that explains what Jagi was doing while the nukes fell.
Wasn’t Bison’s satellite feat sub-relativistic? What happened to that?
The sub-rela calc assumes the satellite was located 40 thousand kilometers away from the Earth as if that was the average distance for some reason. In reality most satellites are around 200-400 km away from the surface. We also have… on screen footage to gauge the distance. The Mach 967 end is simply much better to use.
What about MFTL+ UDON scaling via the Huitzils from Darkstalkers?
We were going to mention that but in truth the speed of the Huitzils is just not that good because of context. We get no timeframe, Pyron was not in another galaxy when it happened, and it would simply be scaling to reactions anyway as SF characters cannot move that fast. Not to mention that Pyron took 3 years to move from a random point in space (that we cannot make any distance assumptions from) to Earth, and we have no information from where he was. With a conservative estimate that he was in another solar system, that feat would only be worth a little above the speed of light. Also, come on, it’s a blatant outlier for these characters to be trillions c or whatever, lol.
I thought Haggar’s feat was multi-continental, what happened?
The kinetic energy was being applied incorrectly. Haggar was drilling the planet vertically, but there’s no way the mass was being dispersed in the same direction, as we literally cannot see it, or else he’d be pushing a huge cylinder out of the Earth with the same diameter of the planet. Since we have no visual proof of mass dispersion, we could infer he was simply pulverizing his way through too, which would lead to a significantly lower result. At best we could assume mass was being dispersed horizontally as he passed, but again we have no visual indicator that it’s happening and we run into the issue of the fact he’s not pushing it all at the same time. The explosion is a much better way to gauge the power of this feat, which is pretty wonky in presentation anyway.
Why didn’t you use that one Chinese comic where Ryu is universal?
Blatantly far removed from Ryu’s story in the games, duh. If you need that level of reaching to beat a multi-continental character idk what to say.
Should non-canon SF ever be used in matchups in your opinion?
Honestly, it depends. If their opponent benefits similarly from blatant non-canon contradictory media, sure. Against characters with relatively consistent continuities? Nah. I wouldn’t use it for Ryu vs Jin, personally, for example.
Who do you think would win an episode of these two matchups?
No clue. In my opinion you need to reach a lot and be a bit unfair to make Ryu and Akuma win, so I’d hope the Hokuto bros pull it off. This is the first time someone addresses how Street Fighter canon works so that could be useful for a future point of reference as well, I know Kirbonic’s Gurren Lagann blog helped in Simon vs Kyle. To my knowledge nobody did a proper Hokuto blog before either, we were really stuck with Akuma vs Raoh from what, 3 years ago? Regardless, I think Ken and Raoh are far more reasonable outcomes and hope Death Battle would come to the same conclusion.
Do you think these matchups SHOULD get episodes?
Yes. Akuma’s last episode was extremely underwhelming and he never had an opponent with connections and vibes as cool as Raoh. Kenshiro’s only episode was also pretty disappointing and barely covered the manga in a worthwhile way. I’d love for Ryu to get a new episode that wasn’t Goku too, Kenshiro is just so much cooler on a character and fight level. I’m sure the waiting periods would be annoying, though. There’s a lot of ODBD members and Redditors that can’t read or are just really insistent on downplaying Hokuto. The fact that so many people bought the Black Moons or never properly analyzed Hokuto AP says a lot. I don’t know how they'll receive this one, lol.
What’s your favorite SF game?
UItra Street Fighter IV, although I really like the Alpha series.
Why did this blog take so long?
My exponentially deteriorating mental health, lack of motivation and a lot of adult responsibilities. I’m willing to take blame for it, the team worked really hard on this one, especially T0m, so I hope you guys like the final result.
Is it true you’ll be quitting soon?
Eh, maybe not. I got my motivation to work on blogs back and I want to finish my passion projects before calling it quits, especially my favorite matchup.
Where’s Mazingetter?
Honestly expect it to be reuploaded next year at the soonest. It’s a huge undertaking and we have a lot on our backlog. Admittedly I’m more motivated to work on new blogs, but it will be back. Eventually. I think.
Should I read Kinnikuman?
Yes, dear hypothetical reader, you should read Kinnikuman.
Reaction and movement speed is the same thing. If they can relate they can move that fast
ReplyDeleteYeah that's why they need planes to travel between countries in Street Fighter instead of flying there with their MHS running speed that has no feat supporting it whatsoever
